Ultrafine Iron Recovery Project

Situated approximately 115 kilometres north of Newman, located in one of the world’s premier iron ore provinces—the Pilbara region of Western Australia—is Roy Hill’s world-class Marra Mamba iron ore deposit.

Roy Hill was investigating the opportunity to further optimise the recovery of product from its processing facility. Test work showed the potential of wet high intensity magnetic separation as an effective processing technique to recover additional ultrafine iron units. Our job? Complete the feasibility engineering and cost study for the project.

We developed the project from concept to a level that confirmed feasibility, provided an accurate estimate of the capital and operating costs to support an investment decision, and delivered sufficient information to advance the project to tender. We used point cloud data and flowsheet information from the client and equipment vendors to ensure sufficient capacity of supply to the new plant, as well as operational agility.  With this information in hand, Roy Hill was able to make an informed decision to better optimise their Marra Mamba site mine.

Following this project, Stantec was engaged for further debottlenecking work with the operator, involving the addition of a new desands module.
