Moving into construction

When BHP needed a robust design and cost estimate to allow their outflow sample station upgrades to proceed, we were retained to complete a definition phase study as well as detailed design and shop detailing. The goal? To hand over detailed drawings to the contractor and fabricator once the execution funds were released.

Project schedule and budget were both constrained, and a typical nine-month process needed to be completed in six. To adhere to this, the project team broke down the work into smaller packages and engaged multiple contractors to complete the work on time. Internal and external review periods were closely monitored to maintain progressing deliverables.

The phase study and detailed design were delivered on time, which allowed the project to progress to the next stage, as planned. Plus, our redesign work resulted in a capital cost saving of approximately AU$25 million to the client.
