Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility – Liquid Biosolids Storage Tank
Our client, the Fort Worth Water Department (FWWD), operates the Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility (VCWRF). They were looking to reduce stockpiles of dewatered biosolids during wet weather events and plant shutdowns and to comply with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations. Existing liquid bio-solids storage tanks had little more than a one day storage capacity, so the FWWD needed to build additional liquid bio-solids holding capacity for wet-weather storage.
To address that need, our team designed and provided engineering services during construction for one new five-million-gallon (5MG) liquid sludge storage tank. The 5MG ground storage tank—an AWWA D110 Type III prestressed concrete open top tank—was selected and designed by the project team because of its long-term durability and low maintenance costs. As part of this contract and to address our client needs, we also designed air jets and mixer units for the storage tank and improvements to existing welded steel liquid biosolids storage tanks.
The storage tank allows VCWRF to store any accumulated biosolids during power outages or severe storm weather, bringing peace of mind to the utility and the community around the reclamation facility.
