La Rabida Children’s Hospital - Outpatient Center

On the shore of Lake Michigan, La Rabida Children’s Hospital Outpatient Center creates a delightful, surprising, and secure space for the treatment and care of children. When La Rabida, a longtime client, envisioned a space that would put children and their families at ease, we collaborated to design something special.

We maximized use of the nearby natural environment, bringing in light, incorporating the green space of an adjacent park, and highlighting views of the lake. These elements combined to create a strong sense of place, distinct from the inpatient hospital—an identity that reinforces patients’ sense of security and comfort.

With integrated technology for entertainment (iPads and games) and areas that promote physical activity including the front porch and healing garden, La Rabida Children’s Hospital Outpatient Center focuses on all aspects of a child’s wellness.
