Grand Avenue Park Pedestrian Bridge

The City of Everett faced a dilemma. With miles of beautiful bluff views and an equally lengthy developing waterfront, they needed to connect the two—the city’s waterfront district was separated from surrounding neighborhoods by miles of bluff. The Grand Avenue Park Bridge serves as a unifying solution, and we were there to light the way in coordination with the design team.

Acting as the pedestrian connection between the historic Grand Avenue Park above and the waterfront below, the bridge spans active railroad tracks and a highway—providing a 257-foot pedestrian bridge with inviting illumination. Dimmable fixtures and controllable sensors enhance the experience and honor the views of the Puget Sound, the night sky, and beyond. Concealed linear grazing lights accentuate the raw nature of the perforated aluminum guardrails. Narrow-beam floodlights trace the weathered steel trusses that compose this impressive piece of civil infrastructure. In addition, existing acorn light poles in the park at the bridge entrance were retrofitted with LED lighting, upgraded technology that maintains the historic charm of the City of Everett.

Providing a safe, human-centered experience, the Grand Avenue Park Bridge bridges the distance with light. It’s an architectural statement that draws visitors and boosts economic opportunity for waterfront businesses.
