Sioux Lookout Air Terminal Building Expansion and Renovation
When the Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux lookout decided to renovate the existing Air Terminal Building, we came in to help. For this project, we addressed the complex technical integration of new construction into the existing building, creating a new identity for this significant gateway for Sioux Lookout.
The site improvements include the expansion of the short-term parking lot, long-term employee and rental parking lot, and redesigned vehicle drop off at the building entrance. The building expansion onto the airside apron required that the aircraft parking and refueling be reconfigured for maximum efficiency—due to the sloped site conditions, special attention was required for soil stabilization and roadway design to manage site drainage.
The functional components of the new Sioux Lookout Airport Terminal Building expansion include increased floor area for passenger arrival and departure holding, baggage check-in and claim, baggage handling, and cargo loading zone. There’s also a new concession and restaurant space, rental kiosks, washrooms, storage and mechanical rooms. To top it off, the existing NAV CANADA air traffic control and navigation tower (CAB) was redone to allow for access, security, and maintaining visibility from the CAB to taxiways, runways, and aprons.
The result? An airport terminal that functions just as good as it looks.
