Airfield Lighting & Electrical Upgrades - The Port Authority of NY & NJ

Sometimes, it’s not where we go, but how far we go for our clients that matters. When runway 4L-22R at Newark International Airport was widened to accommodate larger aircraft, electrical components had to be redesigned to fit the new runway. Our aviation electrical design team added new fixtures that extended the in-pavement runway guard light bar at each of the hold lines on 36 taxiway fillets, 10 of which intercepted Runway 4L-22R. The remaining fillets were around the intersecting stub taxiways between two parallel taxiways, T/W A and T/W B. We also relocated the elevated guard lights, hold signs, and guidance signs, to accommodate the new width, made adjustments to the isolated in-pavement fixture elevations, and added new conduit and wiring.

Beyond this work, our team also performed a comprehensive study of the airfield electrical systems at Newark International Airport, LaGuardia International Airport and John F. Fitzgerald International Airport. The study included a cost-benefit risk analysis on using the same sole-source vendor versus a different one. Other details included a market-share breakdown, airport systems inventory, and the results of a best practices survey sent to five other airports.

Through our expertise, design, and research, we were able to go the distance for our client.
