Grays Bay Road and Port - Engineering and Environmental Consulting
The Grays Bay Road and Port project will link the Canadian Arctic, providing road access from southern Canada to the Kitikmeot. The first phase of this vital corridor will connect a deep water port in the center of the Northwest Passage to Contwoyto Lake—the northern terminus of the Tibbit to Contwoyto winter road. The second phase of this project, when combined with the Slave Geological Province Corridor project, will provide all-season road access from southern Canada to the Coronation Gulf.
Through our Inuit owned partnership, Nunami Stantec Limited, we’ve supported this project since 2016 as engineering and environmental consultants. Our team prepared the project proposal to initiate screening from the Nunavut Impact Review Board (NIRB) and provided support during scoping meetings and initial developments of an impact statement. Our work with the Inuit Advisory Group (IAG) aimed to present an impact statement from an Inuit perspective. We are now supporting West Kitikmeot Resources Corp, a private company with significant Inuit ownership, to progress the project through the NIRB process. We will continue to solicit feedback from the IAG in our work.
When complete, the Grays Bay Road and Port project will aim to create a nationally significant northern trade corridor, aiding Inuit and Canadian sovereignty and offering new opportunities by unlocking Canada’s critical minerals wealth.
