RNA Showgrounds - Master Planning

Founded in 1875, Brisbane’s Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of QLD (RNA) showgrounds has a special place in Brisbane’s heart—especially as home of the famous Royal Queensland Show (or “Ekka”, as it’s known locally). Part of the showground site was identified for redevelopment, including the state-of-the-art Royal International Convention Centre, an adjacent plaza, and 5.5 hectares (13.6 acres) of new development.

We were engaged by Lendlease to provide master planning, engineering works, and infrastructure upgrades for the entire precinct. Given the area was highly flood prone, we created extensive stormwater models and subsequent upgrades that improve flood immunity and integrates the proposed stormwater network with historical brick culvert structures. We also provided civil engineering design to the rejuvenated streetscape, water, and sewer master planning and servicing to the allotments of this thriving mixed-use precinct. Finally, our team managed heritage overlays on the existing showground amenities and water infrastructure and worked to minimize impact to access and enjoyment of this iconic site.

This project is one of the largest urban renewal projects in Brisbane and will be a vibrant new destination where 15,000 people will live, work and play.
