The architecture for this landmark natatorium advertises itself

Westside Aquatics Center

The Lewisville Independent School District wanted their natatorium to be a landmark that generates revenue and advertises itself. With state and national meets of over 1,200 swimmers and spectators, the Westside Aquatics Center also needed the capacity to simultaneously offer water polo, synchronous swimming, and diving.

To realize this vision, our team designed the center with a competition pool alongside a separate diving well with wave-quelling lane lines. We introduced sustainable features such as natural lighting, an energy efficient HVAC system, pool occupancy sensor controls, and roof-mounted solar panels. To serve the community, the three-lane warm-up pool can be used as a swim lesson area while the lobby includes retail space. We designed the manager’s office overlooking the pool with easy access from the lobby, deck, and locker rooms. Support spaces include rooms for wellness and weights, training and first aid, lifeguards, and storage, and the security system incorporates card access and diving board cameras.

Features rounding out the Westside experience include video boards with meet information and a sound system. Site improvements to meet community needs included a partially covered patio, screened outdoor service yard, and a new parking lot with 500 spaces.
