From drab to fab—shoring up prime waterfront for The Citadel’s use

The Citadel Boat Center Master Plan

Sitting on prime waterfront real estate, The Citadel has an ideal venue for hosting competitive sailing and rowing events. However, that aging boat center needed major repairs to comply with current codes. Plus, it detracted from the site, limiting the desire for cadets, faculty, and alumni to use the waterfront for a variety of water competitions and events.

Our team, led by several graduates of The Citadel, developed a master plan to renew the site for improved boating access and parking options as well as to provide a waterfront venue for events and meetings. The main solution? A new boat ramp and docks which include additional dock slips and easier access to the water. Our project team included site planners, landscape architects, and engineers who oversaw the demolition of existing structures and the rebuilding of the docks and boat ramp.

With this master plan and design, we helped The Citadel provide a premier, modern facility on the Ashley River for competitive sailing and rowing, recreational watersports, boating, and campus events.
