Infrastructure Needs Program (INP) in West Bank and Gaza for USAID
Water shortages and underserviced roads in the West Bank were making life difficult for many Palestinian communities. This, along with a severe shortage in classrooms, constituted a need for the United States Agency of International Development (USAID) Infrastructure Needs Program (INP), comprising of several projects to help improve quality of life.
Stantec worked with construction contractors, Israeli Defense Forces, the Palestinian Authority, and local clan elders to create and implement the INP amidst a rapidly changing West Bank environment. Projects included the construction of seven schools, 354 kilometers of asphalt roads, and 99 kilometers of water distribution networks. Our team designed the water distribution projects to lay the foundation for a long-term solution to the West Bank’s water challenges, expanding the delivery of clean water to a broader population and improving system reliability. Throughout each of these projects, we prepared designs and bid documents and executed construction management.
In the end, more than 40 roads, 18 water projects, and 10 major greenfield school projects were completed. While 103 new classrooms were made available for more than 4,000 students, clean water found its way to the homes of more than 131,000 beneficiaries.
