Sofina Foods New Poultry Processing Facility

The Sofina Foods Poultry Processing Facility is a new, 304,000 square-foot, $200 million poultry processing plant located in Calgary, Alberta. Located close to major transportation networks, products that come out of this facility are sold to customers both across Canada and internationally.

To bring this facility to life, our team provided construction services as well as full architectural and engineering design for the building, layout, and the site itself. The new facility processes live chicken into various meat cuts for institutional, commercial, and retail customers and was designed to process 13,500 birds per hour. In addition, the design reflects the highest standards for both animal welfare and people’s health and safety. To meet functional and spatial requirements, as well as bylaw, code, and environmental requirements, we worked with stakeholders to facilitate functional programming, needs assessments, and schematic layouts. The resulting plant is equipped with significant technology to support the production process, including wastewater reduction, noise reduction, waste management, and odor control.

Increasing Lilydale’s production capacity by over 50 percent, this project is the only new major poultry facility constructed in Canada over the last 20 years.
