Providing care in a home-like environment

Looking to offer families a warm and intimate place to give birth, the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) of Lanaudière, Quebec wanted to set up a birth centre in the city of Repentigny. Our team was there to help make it happen.

Divided into two separate pavilions and connected by a family lounge, we took a collaborative approach for the design of this 1,000-square-metre (10,764 square-foot) building. Our Mechanical Engineering team designed the fire protection, plumbing, heating, cooling, air conditioning/ventilation and automatic control systems, and our Electrical team designed the systems for connections, distribution, lighting, fire detection and alarm, telecommunications and security.

The resulting center hosts birthing rooms, facilities for pregnancy monitoring, post-natal care, and offers teaching activities provided by a team of midwives. Families can benefit from a living environment reminiscent of the comforts of home while knowing they have easy access to the particular needs of a birthing center.

With the project now complete, several hundred babies have already been born at the facility.
