CopPhil Technical Assistance

On behalf of the European Union (EU), our International Development team from Belgium provides technical assistance to the National Copernicus Capacity Support Action Program for the Philippines (CopPhil). This program aims to establish the first Copernicus data center in Southeast Asia, helping address the Philippines’ high natural disaster risks. In cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA), this project leverages satellite date to improve disaster awareness and promote climate-resilient infrastructures.

The ESA will conduct three pilot projects for earth observation (EO) services and training while our team promotes EO across various sectors, supporting advocacy, outreach, and capacity-building initiatives. Our goal is to integrate disaster vulnerability reduction into the Philippines' development plans by improving EO data use for informed decision-making.

Key capacity-building activities include training workshops, researcher exchanges, and a scholarship program in Europe. Ultimately, these initiatives aim to develop geospatial and remote sensing expertise among government officials, strengthening the Philippines sustainable disaster risk management and climate adaptation capabilities.
