Borroloola Treatment Plant

Borroloola, is a small, remote town in Australia’s Northern Territory. Distance isn’t the only challenge residents face. The town’s water supply, sourced from groundwater, tends to be corrosive, which effects pipes and other infrastructure. To address water quality issues, reduce infrastructure corrosion, and ensure safe drinking water supply, we worked with the town, Power and Water Corporation, and contractors to help deliver infrastructure upgrades and a new water treatment plant.

Working with the contractors, we prepared the civil and structural design for the plant’s concrete foundation slabs, footings and hold-down equipment. Then, pre-assembled and pre-tested water treatment components were shipped from fabrication shops in Darwin for final assembly on-site. All components were structurally designed and constructed to withstand the highest classification of tropical cyclones.

Though remote, Borroloola has much to recommend it. With access to the Bay of Carpentaria, the area is renowned for fishing and camping. And now it has a robust, upgraded water system to accommodate future growth.
