An active landfill accepting municipal and residential solid waste on a 572-acre site
The Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) is a leader in the field of solid waste management. Their mission? To provide cost-effective, innovative waste management solutions for the communities they serve. To help them reach their goals, we offered our power engineering services to design DSWAs Southern Landfill project.
Located in Georgetown, Delaware, the Southern Landfill accepts both municipal and residential solid waste on a 572 acre plot. The landfill gas-to-power project redirected the gas already being collected from a flare to fire four reciprocating engines to generate four megawatts of electricity—energy that is then sold to the local Delaware power grid.
Our role? We assisted with a scope of work that included process engineering, development of P&IDs, detailed engineering, and design. The facility design incorporates provisions for a fifth reciprocating engine to increase the overall plant capacity to five megawatts in the future.
