Exploring the potential of geothermal energy for commercial development in Grande Prairie
Commonly thought of in relation to Icelandic hot springs, deep geothermal energy has previously seemed accessible to Canadians only through travel. Now, with growing interest in energy sources with low greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the County of Grande Prairie is asking the question, how can we access geothermal energy and what can we do with it? The County engaged us to assess existing geological data and inform them of the geothermal energy opportunities available within the province.
We mapped out capital costs and identified avenues where the County could leverage provincial and federal funding. Drawing from our network of in-house experts, we assessed the feasibility and potential for risk associated with investigating geothermal potential, to progress their strategic planning. Our experience working on large-scale greenhouses, agriculture facilities, and power projection, informed commercial opportunities for the County that will benefit the community while reducing their carbon footprint.
Our knowledgeable and diverse team successfully outlined their findings to the County, resulting in approval to move on to the next stage of feasibility in 2022.
