Looking back on her early years, Carmen Bernedo-Sanchez explains why she selected civil engineering as her career of choice. “I excelled at math, enjoyed challenges, and was good at problem solving. The fact that I was born and raised in Peru, a country prone to earthquakes and flooding, piqued my interest in natural hazards as well.”
