Superior Stones Canal CSO Improvements

The goal for the project is to address the combined sewer overflows caused by hydraulic limitations in critical sections of pipe and wet weather flows and volumes in excess of the conveyance and storage capacities of the pump stations. The objectives of the improvements are to optimize the performance of the existing piping and pumping systems and to provide supplemental storage capacity to reduce annual overflows to the consent decree mandated activations.

The SSC-CSO-I project demonstrates the District’s dedication to clean regional water and the vision of maintaining effective practices of environmental sustainability through commitment to a better tomorrow and a healthy environment. While the District’s focus has been predominantly on larger components of the Easterly CSO Program, this project is aimed at smaller, diverse improvements located in the Flats waterfront area, which has experienced a recent rebirth. The smaller size of the SSC-CSO-I project, however, does not diminish its importance and relevance to achieving the district’s goal of keeping our Great Lake great.
