Townhouse-style student housing encourages socialization and well-being within a quaint community environment
To compete with off-campus housing facilities that offer a more independent lifestyle, institutions are increasingly adding townhome designs to their student housing stock. A new townhouse style complex at the State University of New York at Oswego is known as The Village, and includes 68 units arranged in 12 separate buildings. Each is divided equally along two neighborhood scaled streets. Sidewalks, outdoor lighting, and a great lawn are just a few of the features incorporated into the design, which encourage socialization and wellbeing within a quaint community environment. A commons building offers easy access to quiet study rooms, recreation areas, and a bistro café. Students looking for a greater sense of independence are eager to call The Village their home, and also appreciate the design which meets LEED Gold certification standards.
