Solano Community College – Science Building

A showcase building for the campus, the new Solano Community College Science Building replaces decades-old facilities. This new building houses state-of-the-art science laboratories for biology, chemistry, anatomy, geology, and geography, as well as two general laboratories, a lecture room, and general support spaces.

Working in collaboration with HGA architects, we designed the interior and lab spaces in the building that was built to LEED® Gold equivalence. Learning stations feature mobility so classrooms can be configured into several combinations as either islands or clustered groups. In contrast, other labs in the building feature general laboratories with fixed traditional peninsula benches.

A sense of openness and interactivity was a primary factor for this college-level teaching environment that features teaching spaces for science programs, general support spaces, amenities, and interactive social meeting spaces located in the lobby area. Opportunities for learning outside of the classroom and spaces promoting student-to-student interaction are distributed throughout the building—where students and instructors alike can find connection.

Services for this project were completed by the employees of GL Planning & Design prior to their employment at Stantec.
