Salt River Project (SRP) Renewable Energy System Impact Studies
The Salt River Project (SRP) has been providing power and water to the Phoenix metropolitan area for over a century. SRP is committed to investing in a cleaner, greener future by expanding their renewable energy portfolio. To assist with their renewable goals, SRP retained our team to perform system impact studies (SIS) for proposed solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) generation interconnection queue projects.
As is typical with SIS, our services included power flow contingency, transient stability, post-transient, and fault level analyses along with interconnection facilities assessments. We performed the SIS in compliance with SRP and Western Energy Coordinating Council (WECC) system planning requirements. The resulting SIS identify transmission system impacts caused by the addition of the proposed project in combination with applicable interconnection projects in the queue.
Ultimately, SRP will use the SIS determine system reinforcements and project output curtailment to mitigate adverse impacts of the project under various operating conditions and contingencies. This complies with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) TPL-001, a transmission planning standard to provide reliable electric service with the new project in service.
