NM 15 Reconstruction

The NM 15 project in Silver City is transforming a narrow, shoulderless 1.21-mile (2-kilometre) urban roadway into a modern, multifunctional street. Partnering with Souder Miller and Associates, we tackled location and environmental studies, drainage analysis, roadway and drainage design, agency coordination, and property owner interviews. We’re reconstructing it in two segments: west and northeast.

The west segment will feature two driving lanes, shoulders, bike lanes, and sidewalks. Designing this segment was challenging due to the narrow right-of-way and steep slopes accessing nearby properties. It required extensive right-of-way acquisitions and temporary construction permits.

The northeast segment is being built as an urban section with two driving lanes, a center turning lane, bike lanes, and sidewalks. This part includes a storm sewer system through an old part of Silver City, navigating extensive underground utilities. We worked closely with four utility owners to avoid conflicts and minimize adjustments.

This project also reconfigures two intersections, including a previously complex five-legged one. Upon completion, it will provide bike lanes, shoulders, and sidewalks for the community, ultimately creating a safer place for people to live, work, and commute.
