Henderson Valley Road Enhancements

Mobility is being reimagined in Henderson, a major Auckland suburb. As the community evolved, it became apparent changes were needed along an important 400 metre (0.24 miles) stretch of main arterial road. This presented an opportunity to enhance walking and cycling amenities, safety, connectivity, and support for other developments.

We were engaged for the scheme design stage of the $6 million project, focusing on traffic engineering, signals, and associated traffic modeling and costing. We also provided geotechnical investigations and design concepts for a bridge and boardwalk by Opanuku Stream.

A significant issue arose when we found that the original traffic modeling wasn’t accurate. In response, we carefully worked through our proposed solution with Panuku (Development Auckland) and stakeholders to ensure they could still meet their core objectives.

The final component was our detailed design for a midblock crossing that connects high-density developments on the east of Henderson Road with Opanuku Reserve on the west. The best part? Our infrastructure and upgraded traffic signals will result in better safety and traffic flow and will reduce the crossing distance by 400 metres (0.24 miles).
