Mineral Gap Data Center - Secure Colocation Design

DP Facilities South set out to establish a multiuser secure data center facility in the Lonesome Pine Technology Park in Wise, Virginia. Since many of the initial users included confidential government agencies, security was of the utmost importance. They reached out to our team to help.

We provided engineering design services for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems as well as lighting, security, life safety, and data communications systems serving the data center. The facility consists of six data hall units and a common services area. Our team focused on configuring the electrical and mechanical systems to enhance system efficiency and economy while maintaining continuous availability and sustainability objectives. We also provided comprehensive infrastructure commissioning services to demonstrate infrastructure system performance.

The Mineral Gap Data Center achieved a Tier III certification from the Uptime Institute, which means that the data system can continue operating during the maintenance or replacement of individual components. The center also meets 2N electrical and N+1 mechanical redundancy—N being a measure of system capacity and with plus and a numerical value representing available backups to keep things running.
