Producing a highly-functional, sustainable design on a compact urban site

MetWest’s premium urban site was designed to be ecofriendly and pedestrian friendly by leveraging the setting’s natural shape and mature trees to produce a highly functional, sustainable design on a compact site.

Located in Tampa’s Westshore area, near Tampa International Airport, MetWest is a premier mixed-use development featuring specialty restaurants, retail, and Class A office space, with plans for a future hotel and residential development. Situated on a tight site with mature trees, Stantec overcame many engineering challenges in order to respect and preserve the existing site. We provided a comprehensive stormwater system and a site design that preserved an abundance of existing trees.

We wanted to create a place where people could easily navigate the mixed-use complex or find a quiet spot to relax and enjoy the landscaped view. Our engineers worked in concert with our landscape architects to facilitate pedestrian circulation with a focus on upgraded crosswalks and a high level of connectivity throughout the site. Main vehicular traffic patterns are pushed to the perimeter of the site, allowing the retail and restaurant core to provide a dynamic pedestrian environment.
