Enhancing quality of life through the creation of a stream

Born from the need to provide a flood control solution for the Oak Grove community, Lynnbrook Park boasts playgrounds, a walking path, open gathering areas, a pavilion, and a grilling area. It also offers an artsy pedestrian bridge and recreational opportunities for the community—all in the midst of a naturalized stream.

The park announces its history and purpose upon entering the space by celebrating the water and providing educational opportunities through stream access. Water flowing into the park is slowed, cleaned, and released into the primary meandering stream channel.

Working with the City of Chattanooga, we coordinated community engagement activities, including public presentations, banners, brochures, and a community groundbreaking. We designed the site to restore the natural stream channel, incorporate green infrastructure to treat stormwater, and provide passive and active community spaces.

This project was made possible through a collaboration of the City of Chattanooga Stormwater and Parks Divisions, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), and donations from playground and site furniture vendors.
