We merged disparate medical centers into a centrally located campus that prioritizes patient privacy and comfort

When Intermountain Healthcare wanted to consolidate existing health services to provide its patients with a ‘one stop’ approach to care, our goal was clear: keeping patients in mind, consolidate previously disparate medical services while breaking away from a ‘big box’ style of care. We accomplished this by creating five centers of excellence to better serve the patient population of central Utah.

The Intermountain Medical Center is the centralized site for services previously dispersed among four locations. With 486 beds, this flagship medical center is comprised of five centers of excellence—for Women and Newborns, Tertiary Trauma, Heart & Lung, Ambulatory Care, and Oncology—that prioritize patient privacy, dignity, and connection to family. For example, waiting alcoves allow families to converse privately and are located close to where patients are treated. Every patient room is single occupancy and offer views of the Wasatch and Oquirrh mountain ranges, and physician office space is dispersed throughout.

Our award-winning design brought Intermountain Healthcare’s goal to fruition on a 1.2 million square foot, 110-acre campus that features growth zones, allowing future additions to supplement the state-of-the-art services for years to come.
