Intermountain Healthcare - Carolyn Barnes Gardner Women and Newborn Center

Intermountain Healthcare’s vision for their new flagship medical center included creating five centers of excellence. As one of the five centers of excellence, the Carolyn Barnes Gardner Women and Newborn Center consolidates birthing programs from two hospitals. The Center provides a ‘one stop’ approach to care and is designed to evoke a welcoming, residential feel. Our design approach enables shorter patient access to care, faster travel between clinical destinations, and improved care operations by placing all clinicians and services within the same building.

Distinct in design, the Carolyn Barnes Gardner Center offers views of the Wasatch and Uquirrh Mountains from labor and delivery, the NICU, and family waiting spaces. Each labor and delivery room has a private balcony and view of the garden. Floor to ceiling windows provide connectivity to nature and daylight for patients, visitors, and staff. Purposefully designed as a separate building and located next to a creek, the smaller mass and scale provides a tranquil, discrete healthcare experience.
