I-49 Lafayette Connector

Preparedness is key, and one of the best ways to be prepared for natural disasters is to connect our communities in thoughtful, efficient ways. Our work on the I-49 Lafayette Connector will extend a hurricane evacuation route and energy corridor in Louisiana, connecting through urban Lafayette and on to New Orleans.

Our contribution will be preconstruction engineering and related services for this 5.5 mile, elevated, six-lane highway including accompanying interchanges and flanking frontage roads for local traffic circulation and land access.

Originally started in 2006, the functional plan includes extensive community outreach and public input. We’ll investigate refinement concepts generated by the public and other stakeholders to create a final design concept. The refined concept will introduce parks, plazas, landscaping, and bridge aesthetic treatments.

The functional plan phase will include final geometrics, traffic and ITS analyses, EIS re-evaluation, bridge-type selection, lighting, rail and airport coordination, and underpass planning, along with preliminary geotechnical investigation, SUE and topographic survey and mapping.

When completed, the connector—reflecting Acadiana’s unique culture with public art and structure aesthetics—will serve as integral infrastructure to support the local community and the greater community of Louisiana.
