Greater Bridgeport Transit Master Plan

As part of an initiative to examine transit-oriented developments (TOD) in the greater Bridgeport area (Connecticut), we helped design a transit network that would promote opportunities throughout the region.

The project reviewed the existing transit network by using Automatic Passenger Counter data (APC). The APC allowed for the creation of system profiles by time of day and direction, as well as route-specific ridership profiles by stop, direction, and time. The result? Several key corridors had the potential to offer high-frequency transit service and support Bus Rapid Transit service in the future. Full route timings, stopping patterns, and costing were created for the proposed services along with the identification of road-based infrastructure improvements required to support transit.

Next, our team helped develop a long-range transit plan—the long-term network was created based on the APC data and input from public stakeholders. The collaborative approach offered our client the opportunity to view the system in a different light by considering objective improvement opportunities based on empirical data. The client adopted a layered transit approach that differentiates routes by specific purpose and associated service standards.

Ultimately, a new transit vision was developed along with a supporting value statement—together with new goals and objectives.
