Fish & Richardson

A leading intellectual property law firm with an impressive client roster of entrepreneurs and technologists, Fish & Richardson’s office pioneers new spatial relationships and a contemporary design vocabulary to convey their innovative approach to legal practice, and support intergenerational collaboration between the firm’s partners and young attorneys. Walls of glass and perimeter open spaces bathe the office in natural light, showcase the views, and most importantly, encourage socialization. Shared collaborative spaces, as well as the gracious kitchen and lounge, facilitate impromptu interaction and informal knowledge-sharing.

The design incorporates several gestures that pay homage to the firm’s storied history. In reference to the firm’s founder, Frederick Perry Fish, the iconic staircase evokes a fish’s spine breaching water. Ingenious light fixtures in the cafeteria bring to mind sequences of human DNA and underscore the firm’s contribution to advancements in biomedical science. In conference rooms, pendant lights feature a hologram of the light bulb designed by Thomas Edison, one of the firm’s earliest clients.
