Construction Management & Inspection for MDOT SHA District 4

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) State Highway Administration (SHA) manages highway and bridge construction projects in Baltimore and Harford Counties (District 4). Construction management and inspection are key services that keep these projects moving which in turn keeps Marylanders moving.

Stantec, as lead joint venture firm, has provided contract management and administration, project management, and construction management and inspection services for MDOT SHA District 4 under two consecutive contracts. While this work includes several key projects—from bridge replacement to roadway resurfacing and rehabilitation—a notable challenge for our team was on the I-695 Inner Loop Bridge Widening projects. Here, we had to keep more than 200,000 vehicles moving through the work zone each day while constructing new bridges. To maintain traffic during phased construction, about 3,000 feet of I-695 was widened with full depth pavement and the existing four-lane section of US 1 was converted to a divided four-lane section with a median bio swale.

In 2020, our team was awarded this contract for the third time—we look forward to providing continued services that help keep critical roadways and bridges in service and residents of Maryland commuting safely and efficiently.
