Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC
When Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC (BIR) moved to the Union Trust Building in Pittsburgh, it was more than new space for their headquarters—it was also an opportunity to set a new standard. Relocating from 195,000 square feet on nine floors to 140,000 square feet on two full floors and two half floors was a significant change.
In association with Brigette Pavlik Interior Design, our design team led vision sessions with all attorneys and staff for open discussion. The outcome focused on three points: social spaces, innovation, and pride. We applied glass fronts to increase natural light in all offices and designed a large conferencing suite flexible for meetings and entertainment. Corner offices were converted to huddle rooms for quick meetings and collaboration. The café is prominently located and features various seating styles for dining or lounging—custom made booths promote alternative workspace while a LED steam fireplace sets a relaxing atmosphere. The stunning lobby ceiling highlights Union Trust Building architecture and other Pittsburgh landmarks, while artwork commissioned from a local artist was printed on acrylic panels and illuminated with LED lighting.
Altogether, this move and design impacts the BIR office culture. The open, shared collaboration areas and central cafe promote more interaction among staff of all levels and positions within the firm.
