Anchorage International Airport - Remain Overnight Parking

The Anchorage International Airport is more than 5,000 miles from Hong Kong. It’s more than 3,400 miles from Atlanta. But due to its northern location, it’s an ideal stopping point for large cargo jets flying between Asia and the United States. It is 9 hours from 90% of the world’s population.

Stantec’s engineers have been working at the airport for more than 20 years, designing improvements to make it the No. 2 airport in the US for landed cargo weight and one of the world’s top 5 cargo airports.

The airport turned to Stantec when it was time to reconstruct eight parking/refueling spots to accommodate larger Boeing 747-8 and Airbus aircraft often used for cargo flights. It took 80,000 tons of asphalt and 14,000 cubic yards of concrete for the upgrade. The project’s two phases included reconstruction of the pavement structural section, catch basins, and storm drain piping; replacement of taxiway edge lighting and new centerline lighting; concrete hardstands; accommodating for the separation of deicing and stormwater drainage fluids; a new snow storage area; and the installation of new fuel hydrants.
