Yacyretá Hydroelectric Project
We welcomed the opportunity to lead one of the largest civil works constructions in Latin America over the last 25 years. 65 kilometers long and 42 meters high, the proposed Yacyretá Hydroelectric Project would process 95,000 cubic meters of water per second. Yacyretá would be located on the Paraná River, feed from one of the largest river basins in the world, and reach far into Argentina and Paraguay.
Our responsibilities comprised of all technical and administrative services, including planning and feasibility studies, detailed design, inspection, and construction management. Though producing clean energy for communities in need was our main objective, Yacyretá serves several significant purposes. Not only does the dam provide navigation and flood control, but we installed a highway to bridge a much-needed connection between the two neighboring nations.
Completed in 2008, Yacyretá can support 66 million cubic meters of water at a time. We installed two colossal spillways, closable intake bays, and fish facilities to enable the upstream migration of fish across the dam. With a total capacity of 3,200 MW, the project produces 25 percent of the total energy consumed in Argentina and has a flowrate seven times greater than the Mississippi River.
