Technical and Environmental Analysis of a Waste-to-Energy Power Plant
When our client was bringing a new waste-to-energy power plant (WTE) to Turin, their goal was to increase the efficiency of municipal solid waste (residual of the separation collection) final disposal. We were hired to prepare an independent technical and environmental due diligence report on the project, which included a waste market analysis, the project technical assessment, the performance evaluation, and the risk identification.
The maximum authorized capacity of incineration is 421,000 tons per year, and the gross power generated by the WTE power plant is about 65 megawatts—with a gross electric efficiency of about 31% (no co-generating configuration and guaranteed by the contractor with three lines in operation).
This project received a PIMBY Association recognition for successfully managing stakeholder and community relations, and as it moved into final phases, we provided construction monitoring services. Now, with this plant in place, the city of Turin has another environmentally friendly power-generating option, turning waste into energy.
