Stouffville Rail Corridor Program & Scarborough Junction Technical Advisor
Motorists know that waiting at a train crossing can be a frustrating and sometimes dangerous experience when the road is on the same level as the tracks—otherwise known as at-grade road and rail crossings. A safer solution is to create separation by building a track bridge over the roadway or by creating a road underpass.
In the Greater Toronto Area, road usage and rail service are expected to expand within the next 10 years. With that in mind, Metrolinx identified the need to reduce the number of at-grade road and rail crossings along the Stouffville rail corridor where most of the crossings were not grade separated. They reached out to our professionals to be part of the Stouffville rail corridor service expansion.
Our team provided overall program and project management for the upgrades and designed eight grade-separated crossings along the Uxbridge subdivision. We also designed the connection of Uxbridge and Kingston subdivisions through the Scarborough Junction at Corvette Avenue to the Scarborough GO Station building, as well as east to west from Brimley Avenue to Kennedy Road.
Now, with grade separations in place, the community can enjoy a new safe passage at level crossings on the rail corridor—improving safety for everyone using the roads and rails.
