Stabilization of 1.5 km of at-risk riverbanks

The residential neighbourhood of Chaline Valley in Saint-Lazare is located on either side of the Quinchien River. The slopes of the riverbanks are made up of clay, which is prone to erosion and landslides. About 40 houses were at risk. The City of Saint-Lazare hired our Environmental Services team to carry out disaster prevention projects. The situation required significant excavation and reprofiling of 127,000 m3 of riverbank slopes and construction of major stabilization structures at 23 sites along the banks of the river, which is an important fish habitat.

Our team obtained an emergency order and the necessary ministerial authorizations and then completed environmental site assessments, ecological characterizations and an inventory of the natural environment. We also had to plan the access roads, characterize the excavated soil disposal site and identify vulnerable plant species.

Out of a concern for safety and the environment, we acted with due diligence and care at each project phase to ensure the safety of residents and wildlife.
