Mistissini Wooden Bridge
The Cree Nation of Mistissini wanted a new bridge to help them cross the Uupaachikus Pass and make their territory more accessible for the entire community.
We designed an innovative, 160 meter long glue-laminated semi-continuous arched structure, which took into account environmental issues, sustainability objectives, and material supply challenges.
The use of wood made it possible to eliminate joints over the bridge’s full length, allowing us to produce a more durable bridge for this type of structure. In addition to being designed for heavier loads, the structure is at once aesthetic as well as ecological and sustainable. Construction of this structure—one of Canada’s most significant wooden bridges—involved the local community’s active participation and promoted the region’s socioeconomic development.
