CN-GO Railway Corridor - South Blair Grade Separation Project

By creating a junction of rail lines at different heights, the site will better handle increased rail traffic and no longer rely on a traditional “gates and bells” system.

We completed geotechnical engineering design for a kilometre-long rail track diversion, a kilometre-long storm sewer, main track and spur track rail bridge, and an eight-metre-deep road cut underpass. The project was designed in accordance with AREMA, CHBDC and Ontario MTO standards.

Rail track design included prefabricated wick drains where there were compressible clay soils—mitigating the need for expensive sub-excavation and replacement with engineered fill. We carefully reviewed the stability and settlement of the new rail embankment so it will not interfere with the adjacent main CN-GO track rail embankment.

As the road cut will extend below the static groundwater table we are providing a detailed hydrogeological investigation. Construction will include dewatering and the implementation of permanent drainage infrastructure; both will be connected to the new storm sewer.
