Chief Peguis Trail Extension

In the 1968 Winnipeg Area Transportation Study, the Chief Peguis Trail was identified as part of the City of Winnipeg’s Inner Ring Route. The goal of that route? To create a strategic road network that reduces neighborhood traffic. Over the last 50 years, the City of Winnipeg has conducted numerous projects to make the Inner Ring Route a reality.

This particular extension project set out to connect drivers from Henderson Highway to Lagimodiere Boulevard. DBF2 Limited Partnerships brought us in to perform lead design consultant services as well as construction management and help achieve that vision.

The Chief Peguis Trails Extension included a new roadway, intersection improvements, a new bridge and underpass, and a separated intersection to improve safety in surrounding neighborhoods. We contributed the detailed design for the roadways, intersections, pedestrian bridge, and land drainage and grading. Our design introduced new landscaping, an active public transportation network, noise attenuation barriers and berms to reduce traffic noise, overhead sign structures, and roadside hazard protection measures.

With the implementation of the Chief Peguis Trail Extension, the City of Winnipeg expanded this key transportation route, improving traffic flow, reducing congestion, providing new multi-use pedestrian and cyclist paths, and promoting public transit use.
