Regina Airport Check-In Hall Revitalization
The terminal check-in hall, part of a 1980s addition to the original airport, had become seriously undersized for the ever growing traffic. As projections continued to climb the space was no longer adequate to meet passenger needs.
To increase the hall depth for queuing, we completed an in-depth structural review and load transfer exercise to relocate the check-in counter line back four metres. By removing the columns, we had to re-design the mechanical and electrical distribution strategies.
To reduce under-used space during non-peak times, we developed a counter management strategy using LEAN principles. Any airline is now able to relocate to any check-in counter, now using the entire space. To ensure a secure airline access operational system, our IT specialist designed a new fibre backbone to handle the multitude of requirements.
On top of increasing capacity, we engineered a modified oversized baggage conveyance line, relocated the security area to the south end of the hall, redefined the spatial signage cues, and created visually pleasing elements that have created a contemporary, user friendly space for passengers.
