Cairns Performing Arts Centre Redevelopment

After serving a growing community for more than 40 years, the Cairns Civic Theatre needed more space and updating to meet the technological requirements of modern theatre productions. Part of a major redevelopment, the new Cairns Performing Arts Centre (CPAC) replaced the existing theater.

Our team provided civil engineering sketches and geotechnical support as part of the schematic design for the 940-seat main theater—with a wider and deeper main stage large enough for full 98-piece symphony orchestras and ballet performances, as well as a 400-seat studio theater. We also provided the civil engineering drawings for the final tender documents. In working with various stakeholders, consultants, and contractors, our team responded to multiple changes to the scope and variations in design.

The new facility has more than triple the floor space of the previous theater. This creates an inclusive environment that addresses diverse needs for both community and professionals alike with the technology to support modern performances.
