National Capital Authority Asset Management Strategy and ISO 55001 Roadmap

The ongoing management and preservation of national built assets, landscapes, and civil infrastructure in Canberra, Australia’s capital city, needed a consolidated approach to provide a legacy for all. As custodians on behalf of the Australian Government, the National Capital Authority (NCA) is responsible for Canberra’s most significant national, cultural, and landscape attractions across the territory. The diverse asset base includes critical transportation and stormwater infrastructure, public buildings, fountains, national monuments, and more.

NCA reached out to us to develop an updated asset management strategy and supporting asset management framework for the organization. We first undertook an asset management maturity gap analysis against ISO 55001 to understand the priority areas for improvement. Then, we collaborated with multiple stakeholders to develop an asset management framework and strategic roadmap of continuous improvement initiatives. We also developed supporting elements for the framework covering condition reporting demand forecasting and service standards for each major asset category.

NCA’s continued effective management of the more than AU$900 million in assets will benefit the community for years to come.
