Burragorang Road Remediation

During a significant rain event Burragorang Road experienced a total failure which closed the sub-arterial road connecting the communities of Oakdale and The Oaks. As part of a government emergency funding initiative to assist local councils with the repair, clean-up, and recovery efforts, the Wollondilly Shire Council appointed us to provide early investigation works. This included geotechnical and flood modeling scenarios to determine the likely cause of the road failure.

We expedited the road and culvert design works so that early tendering work could be carried out. We then facilitated a competitive process and secured a principal contractor well within the budget. With the timeline being the main concern, the “for construction” design documentation was completed within two months. Expression of interest contractors were issued within three weeks, and the contract was awarded within two months of the event.

Over the 14 week construction program, we continued to work with Council providing superintendency and construction advice. The fast-track program was a success, with the road reopening in record time to once again connect the two communities.
