Wessex Water names Stantec as AMP8 Capital Delivery Partner

Stantec’s latest multi-year appointment comes on the back of a string of AMP8 framework wins

10/01/2024 LONDON, UK TSX, NYSE:STN

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting, has been appointed to two lots on Wessex Water’s Capital Delivery Partner Framework. The water company’s multi-million-pound framework runs throughout and beyond the AMP8 period for an initial six years with the option to extend for a further five. Following a competitive tender process, Stantec will now work as a Design Partner on Lot 2, and will support Kier Group on Lot 1 as a Design and Build Partner.

Wessex Water’s network covers most of Dorset, Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. The company provides fresh, high quality water services to 1.4 million customers and sewerage services to 2.9 million customers living in the south west of England.  Its Capital Delivery Partner Framework will include a range of projects that see the construction of crucial, new assets as well as the refurbishment, modifications, and maintenance of above and below ground infrastructure.

Throughout the AMP8 period, Wessex Water will be delivering record-breaking levels of investment in its assets.

Hundreds of projects are being planned across its region to include capital maintenance works, the construction of water recycling and water treatment centres, improvements to supply and sewerage networks, innovative schemes to reduce the pressure on overflows, and a greater focus on applying new environmental investigation and monitoring regimes.

On the Design Partner Lot, Stantec will supply optioneering and feasibility services in addition to outline and detailed design support. On the Framework’s Design & Build Partner Lot, Stantec will work with Kier to support Wessex Water with a range of planning, design, and project and programme management services as well as taking on Construction (Design & Management) Regulations responsibilities.

In 2023, Stantec was also selected as one of the consultants for Wessex Water’s Wastewater Network Modelling Services Framework, and the new appointment builds on Stantec’s work for the water company throughout AMP7.

“Over the years, we have built a fantastic relationship with Wessex Water, and our presence and influence across the South West has grown significantly,” said Jon Cooke, regional director, Stantec. “We’re delighted to be appointed to this framework alongside our design and build partners, Kier Group. We’ll work with nature and cutting-edge technologies while harnessing our collective capabilities to transform water infrastructure across the region. We’re looking forward to bringing global best practice and UK expertise together to add real value for local people.”

Wessex Water’s Engineering and Delivery Director Paul Lewis said: “These awards will enable a much wider reach for the delivery, training, development, secondments and apprenticeships across the partnership for a programme that is more than double the size of our AMP7 (2020-25) commitments.”

Stantec’s placement on the Wessex Water Framework follows successful AMP8 Framework appointments for United UtilitiesDŵr Cymru Welsh WaterSouth West WaterNorthumbrian Water, Severn Trent, and Southern Water.
