Following a competitive tender process, Stantec, a global leader in sustainable engineering and design, has been appointed as a strategic technical partner by Northumbrian Water for Asset Management Plan (AMP) 8 period. Officially beginning in April 2025, AMP8 is the upcoming five-year investment cycle for water companies in England and Wales.
Stantec will provide a range of technical enabling, solution delivery, and design services to support Northumbrian Water in achieving its vision to be the leading provider of sustainable water and wastewater services. The partnership will influence capital investment in both infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects and programmes for the Northumbrian Water, Essex, & Suffolk water operating areas.
For more than 30 years, Stantec has worked alongside Northumbrian Water, which provides water and sewerage services to just under 4.4 million people. The company is currently a partner on its AMP7 Technical Consultancy Framework. The AMP8 strategic partnership will run for four years, starting April 1, 2023, with an option to extend for an additional four years. Stantec will work with Northumbrian Water’s other technical, commercial, and construction partners as part of the wider AMP8 delivery team.
Throughout the AMP8 period, Stantec will use its local expertise and global presence to support Northumbrian Water in realising its efficiency, net zero carbon, and nature-based solution ambitions while working within its regulatory obligations and meeting its social value goals.
“Increasing the long-term reliability and resilience of our water and wastewater networks while lowering costs for domestic and business customers is key to ensuring sustainable development within communities,” said Scott Jackson, regional business lead for Stantec United Kingdom and Ireland. “We look forward to supporting Northumbrian Water’s vision and delivery of its capital programmes throughout AMP8, pairing our detailed technical understanding of the UK water sector with cutting-edge thinking from around the world.”
We are proud to keep strengthening our successful working relationship with Northumbrian Water. At Stantec, we have always been passionate about supporting our water sector to improve efficiency throughout their networks, while building resilience to tomorrow’s challenges. We are looking forward to a new period of collaboration with Northumbrian Water and our framework partners.
“We want to really challenge ourselves as we look to the future of our capital plan and processes, recognising the need to evolve how we do business to deliver the best possible value for our customers in these challenging times. We also see a huge opportunity for greater sustainability and reduced carbon in our asset base by looking at our business through a TOTEX lens,” said Monisha Gower, assets director for Northumbrian Water. “While we have already made steps towards these goals, the appointment of our strategic and commercial partners brings expertise and experience to the table and will really help shape the future of our asset management, investment planning and delivery. We look forward to working with them to co-create this exciting future.”
