The I-526 Lowcountry Corridor WEST is a $3 billion transportation megaproject that will alleviate congestion issues, address safety, and improve economic opportunities in the region. However, the neighboring communities are comprised of low-income and minority residents which were affected by highway construction in the 1960s and 1990s. To reduce impacts on these communities, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) engaged Stantec professionals to conduct outreach, assess impacts, and develop plans to address direct, indirect, and cumulative impacts on environmental justice neighborhoods.
